Hendersonville Healthy Restaurant Options

With the cooler temperatures and shorter days of fall, we naturally want to indulge in more comfort foods. But, indulging in these foods comes with a price, and with the third wave of COVID, it’s important to keep our overall well-being front of mind. Luckily, Hendersonville has quite a few healthy options for take-out on those days when you simply don’t want to cook but still want to keep things healthy. All of these restaurants also offer either indoor or outdoor seating.

  1. Zen Hen (https://www.zenhencafe.com/)

Zen Hen is Hendersonville’s newest restaurant, and they specialize in Buddha bowls and rotisserie plates. Buddha bowls are vegetarian meals that usually include a whole grain, lots of vegetables, tofu/beans, and a sauce to bring everything together. At Zen Hen, customers can build their own customizable bowls or choose one of the restaurant’s signature bowls. There are also rotisserie chicken plates and the option of including chicken in a Buddha bowl for customers who are not vegetarian. All of the chicken they serve is local, hormone and antibiotic free.  Zen Hen is open Monday-Saturday from 11 am-7pm, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating available.

  1. Hendersonville Community Co-Op (https://www.hendersonville.coop/)

The Hendersonville Community Co-Op is the perfect place to stop for a take-out lunch or dinner option. Pre-COVID, they were known for their salad and hot bar, but they have since pivoted away from their salad and hot bar, and now only have pre-packaged to go items such as salads, soups, and noodles. Additionally, customers can order hot sandwiches, smoothies, and pressed juices in the deli. The Co-Op does not offer indoor seating at this time, but there are outdoor tables for customers who wish to enjoy their food outside.

  1. Boon-Choo Thai Express (https://www.boonchoothai.com/)

Located on Upward Road in Flat Rock, Boon-Choo is a bit of a drive from downtown Hendersonville, but well worth it. Boon-Choo offers traditional Thai favorites like Pad Thai and pineapple fried rice, but they also offer unique takes like Secret Wife, a vegetable stir fry in a brown curry sauce served with rice. All menu items are served with a customer’s choice of protein and can be served mild or spicy. Boon-Choo does offer indoor seating, but for customers who wish to take their food to-go, they have a drive-thru, which makes picking up orders easy and COVID safe.

  1. The Baker’s Box (http://www.thebakersboxshop.net/)

Located on Asheville Highway, The Baker’s Box is very convenient to downtown Hendersonville. Everything served at the Baker’s Box is homemade from scratch, so customers can feel confident that not only is the food delicious, but it is free of any mysterious ingredients. Their menu includes a variety of salads, sandwiches, wraps and pitas that are both healthy and tasty. The Baker’s Box has a beautiful patio where customers can enjoy their meals, and they also offer indoor seating.

  1. Pita Express (http://pitaexpresshville.com/)

Specializing in Middle Eastern food, Pita Express is convenient to both downtown Hendersoville and Flat Rock. At Pita Express, customers will find options that include falafels, rice and lentils, and salads. They also serve lamb and chicken options for customers who are not vegetarian. Rich in flavor but not in calories, customers will walk away from their meals feeling satisfied, but not stuffed. Pita Express offers indoor seating along with their option for take-out.
