The Spirits Still Move Them

Moonshining in the Mountains – The Center’s newest documentary film focuses on the iconic moonshiners. Rather than the stereotypes of lazy, drunken mountaineers, moonshiners were some of the most entrepreneurial and creative farmers in a community who not only provided a public service but helped to put food on the table for themselves and their communities. The stories are both heart-rending, funny and moving and open a window into the soul of the Southern Appalachian world that’s rapidly vanishing.

All screenings include live music by Apple Country String Band or Bandana Rhythm as well as a talk with the director and local moonshiners. The screening at North River Farms is drive-in theater event with a food truck. Click here for more information.
