5 Date Night Ideas that won’t Break the Bank
Coming up with date night ideas can always be challenging. So often, couples end up of falling into the dinner and a movie rut, which can be costly, especially if that couple also has to pay for a babysitter. Thankfully in Henderson County, we have options of low-cost date nights that are not only much less expensive, but also may be much more romantic than the typical night out.
- Jump-Off Rock at Sunset
Just a short fifteen minute drive from Main Street is Jump-Off Rock. This scenic overlook provides breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and though there are hiking trails available if you want to take an evening hike, the walk to the overlook is quite easy. There is plenty of parking at Jump-Off Rock and many nice spots to spread out a blanket and enjoy a sunset picnic. Taking a visit to Jump-Off Rock is free, so this date is not only romantic but also budget friendly.
- Visit a Street Festival
Throughout the year, Hendersonville is so lucky to have vibrant street festivals on Main Street. Our most famous festival is Apple Festival over Labor Day weekend, but we also have smaller festivals to enjoy like Art on Main and Fiesta Hendersonville. Visiting these festivals can make for a fun and unique date night. Walking along Main Street at sunset while holding hands and checking out the unique booths at these festivals makes for a charming (and cost effective!) date night because admission to the street festivals is always free.
- Walk at Connemara
Take the ten minute drive from Main Street into Flat Rock and you will find Connemara, the home of the great American Poet Carl Sandburg. The grounds of historic Connemara are lush and filled with vibrant green trees and plants. For your date, you can enjoy an easy stroll around the lake trail, or you and your sweetheart may choose a more vigourous hike up to Big Glassy Mountain where you can enjoy sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The top of Big Glass is flat and is the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic and conversation. Admission to the grounds of Connemara is free and if you would like to tour the home it is only five dollars, making this another budget friendly date.
- Dessert Night
One of my favorite date nights for Main Street is restaurant hopping. My husband and I will enjoy appetizers at one restaurant, main courses at another, and dessert at yet another restaurant. I love doing this because it gives us a chance to try out new places and also enjoy a walk. For a more budget-friendly option, you can enjoy dinner at home, and then head out for just dessert. Main Street is full of restaurants with fantastic dessert options, and to make it even more romantic, you and your honey can choose a restaurant with patio seating, so that you can enjoy the sunset and people watching.
- Nature Walk at the Park at Flat Rock
One of Hendersonville’s newest parks is the Park at Flat Rock. This park boasts a large walking trails and green space that is home to native wildlife and plants. Prior to its life as a park, this was a golf course, which makes it extremely walkable. The walking trail at the Park at Flat Rock is mostly level, which makes it perfect for a date-night stroll. You and your sweetheart can stop for tea or coffee on the way and enjoy a casual evening stroll through this beautiful park. There are also picnic tables and shady spots under trees to stop and have a picnic.
